As promised... The letter of the day is [ A ]

[ Alex ... Of course how could I not? ]

My baby boy was born on the 20th of May 2007 at 11:08pm. I had the best labour call me crazy but I wish I could do that part again just to feel that fantastic!

We had had a fairly lazy day, I insisted that we went out for brekky, (there's not lot of exciting places to go in this town) so off to Macca's we went. Hallie played in the playground we ate brekky then went for a drive and a bit of a walk and a bit more of a drive. I'd been getting cramps all morning and was getting pretty uncomfortable in the car so we came home had some lunch and put Hallie down for a sleep. Brad and I lay down to watch a movie I had a sleep and that about summed up our afternoon. At 6pm Maddi and Jacob came home, I was outside for a while talking to Mick then came in and reclaimed my position on the lounge. Brad made the kids dinner, they all had baths ect. While they were eating dinner Brad kept asking if I was ok, the pains were getting closer and I was still denying I was in labour as he wasn't due until the following Saturday. At one point Maddison said "what will happen if you have the baby tonight?" Brad and I both said " then we will have a baby tomorrow!"
Anyway the kids went to bed and Brad came and sat beside me and asked if I wanted him to ring his parents and get them to travel over. I was so sure it would all stop, as there was nothing really regular about the contractions. I decided to get up and walk around for a bit and see what happened. As soon as I did they became VERY regular and were less then 3mins apart. We decided very quickly to ring his parents and get them on the way as they had an hour to travel.

Within half an hour we decided we couldn't wait for them (we had a 20min trip to the hospital)and got a friend to come and stay with the kids (who were all in bed and had no idea what was going on) until Brads parents arrived.
We left at 9:17 pm I remember looking at the clock in the car and concentrating on it every contraction, I was n so much pain in the car but didn't want to scare Brad so tried to hide it LOL.
We got to the hospital at 9:37pm got out of the car, Brad got the bags and was trying to find my mobile, in the end I said "Who cares where it is we'll find it tomorrow!"

So we got into the hospital and had to have the CTG on, Alex was asleep and they weren't happy about his heart rate it was a bit slow, (saying that now it scares me, but at the time I was never worried and I remember joking around with Brad about poking him to wake him up) It was 10:30 when they finally took it off. Brad was so wonderful throughout it, just by being there was all I needed. The Dr came in at 11pm (he'd just done an emergency c-section) and decided to break my waters (actually I told him to do it before I killed him! I knew as soon as my waters broke my baby would be born) He broke my waters and walked out of the room, saying I'll hang around for a while and see what happens. He'd barely even shut the door and I had to push.

So at 11:08pm our beautiful son was born. We hadn't settled on a name yet, but as soon as I held him I knew he was Alex.

I cant believe that was almost 8months ago!
The time has gone so fast and it hasn't helped that he has never been a good sleeper so most of it is just an exhausting blur for me. Thankfully he is getting better. He is so much fun now, commando crawling everywhere. He cant sit be himself yet but he can stand by himself for a few seconds and stands holding on to the coffee table for a while. He has the cutest laugh, it doesn't matter how cranky you are, when you hear him laugh you just have to smile. He has cut one tooth and another is almost through. And he is eating LOTS. He has a full wheatbix and a piece of toast just for breakky. He makes our family complete!

Here's a recent photo of him- he also loves being outside and in the swing.
